Stealth Signal Software |
 |
| |
• |
What
is the Stealth Signal software?
A program that sends signals to our database with all the
software and hardware details of the computer and its location.
The software also includes other features as described in
the product details page.
|
|
| |
• |
How
does Stealth Signal work?
Each time that the computer is booted or each day the software
sends a signal to our database with the changes of hardware
and software that have taken place - this are then shown on
our database.
|
|
| |
• |
How
do I see the database showing my software, hardware and activities?
With your own user name and password you can see all the information
about all the computers registered to yourself. You
can also change your settings and report the computer stolen.
|
|
| |
• |
How
can I trial this software?
Click on the trial button and fill out the form.
You will then be sent an activation code, username and password.
Download the software and you can test the software for 15
days. This will allow you to use all the functionality
of the program.
|
|
| |
• |
Will
this work on any operating system?
Stealth Signal will work with any Windows or Macintosh operating
system. Stealth Signal does not work on other operating
systems such as Linux.
|
|
| |
Recovery |
|
| |
• |
How
does the recovery function work?
Each time that a signal is sent from the computer, we can
identify its location. Therefore, if your computer is
stolen the next time it is connected to a phone line, network
or the internet, its location is identified.
|
|
| |
• |
How
do you identify where the computer is?
Each time that a signal is sent, it includes the caller ID
(if calling from an analogue line, ADSL does not support caller
ID) and the IP address. From these, we go back to the
phone companies and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to identify
who the phone line is registered to and who was using that
IP address at the time. As we are acting in 'furtherance
of a crime' the phone companies and ISPs are happy to give
this information.
|
|
| |
• |
Would
it be obvious that the computer is sending a signal?
Absolutely not. As the program is completely disguised,
there is nothing to warn a thief that this software exists.
The program uses its own dial program and therefore is not
affected by dial-up network settings.
|
|
| |
• |
How
do you recover the computer?
We assist the police in the identification of the location
of the computer to enable a recovery to be made. If
you are registered with our 24hr monitoring and recovery service
we can undertake a private recovery at an additional cost.
|
|
| |
• |
What
do I do if my computer is stolen?
You need to report the loss of your computer to the police,
who will give you a Crime Reference Number. With this number
logon to your account from any computer and report the computer
stolen - this will ensure that as soon as a signal is picked
up from this computer we can react. Alternatively call 0800
195 6790 to report the loss and we will log your computer
as stolen on your account. Thereafter we will be in touch
with you when we have received a signal from your computer
with its whereabouts.
|
|
| |
• |
What
happens if I lose my computer in another country?
Using the worldwide Stealth Signal recovery service, we are
able to recover computers worldwide. Even if there is
no local freephone number for the signal to dial to, the location
of the computer can still be retrieved from the IP address.
We work with worldwide security companies to make international
recoveries.

Hidden Drive & Back-Up |
|
| |
• |
What
is a hidden drive?
A new directory is created within the hard drive which cannot
be seen until accessed.
|
|
| |
• |
How
do I access the hidden drive?
Using a combination of keys will bring up a menu to unlock
your hidden drive(s) and manage the drives. Thereafter,
enter your password.
|
|
| |
• |
Once
open, how does the hidden drive work?
Once you have entered the correct password for each drive
that you wish to unlock, this drive then works in the same
way as any other directory on your computer. e.g. if
your hidden drive is drive: H:, then you can move files in
and out of this directory, save to and undertake all other
actions in the same way as if it was your C: directory.
|
|
| |
• |
When
is my information encrypted and hidden?
By using the key combination you can bring up the menu to
lock (and therefore encrypt) the hidden drive. Equally
when you shut down your computer, the drive will automatically
encrypt your data and be hidden.
|
|
| |
• |
Can
I put all my data on the hidden drive?
Yes
|
|
| |
• |
What
is 448 encryption?
Military standard encryption. Put another way, it took
years to break a part of a 128 encryption code, therefore
it will take a very long time to break the whole of a 448
encryption code!
|
|
| |
• |
How
do I create hidden drive(s)?
Using the manager (accessible with a password), you can create
upto 23 hidden drives and allocate their size. Through
the manager you can also delete them and change their names.
|
|
| |
• |
How
does the back-up work?
Using the manager menu, you can set the FTP address to which
you wish to back up your information. At this same time
or later you can allocate which folders (from anywhere on
your computer) you wish to back-up. When the back-up
takes place, these folders are encrypted and compressed before
being sent.
|
|
| |
• |
Will
stealth signal back-up automatically?
Yes, every hour it will detect the changes in the folders
and back these up (so long as you are on line). Alternatively
you can direct the back-up to happen through the manager menu.
|
|
| |
• |
Can
I retrieve folders from the allocated FTP address?
Yes, you can allocate which folders you wish to retrieve from
your allocated FTP address through the manager.
|
|
| |
• |
Can
I back up individual files?
No, you can only back-up individual folders (which may include
a file, or a multiple of files and folders).
|
|
| |
• |
Can
I back up folders which are not in my hidden drive?
Yes, you can back up from anywhere in your computer.
|
|
| |
Remote
Deletion |
|
| |
• |
How
do I delete my hidden drive?
At any time, you can instruct us to delete the hidden drive.
However, this instruction can only be given by the authorised
manager. Due to the sensitivity of the operation, it
is not possible to delete the drive yourself.
|
|
| |
• |
Can
I stipulate what to delete?
You can only delete drives that have been created, you cannot
delete individual files or folders. However, you can
decide which hidden drives, from those that you have created,
you wish to delete.
|
|
| |
• |
Will
my drive be automatically deleted if I report my computer
stolen?
If you have instructed this to happen, yes.
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
• |
How
difficult is it to install the program?
Incredibly easy. The simplest method is to go to www.stealthsignal.com and follow
the instructions. It is necessary to have an activation
code before you can download the program. This will
require that either you have purchased the software, or have
filled in the trial request form.
|
|
| |
• |
During the download/installation it asked for my activation
code, where do I get this from?
If you are trialing the software, you must go to the trial
button and fill in the trial request form first - thereafter
you will be sent by e-mail your activation code, user name
and password. If you have purchased the software without
trialing it, you will have been sent your activation code
on purchase and you need to click the 'Create New Account'
option during the installation process so that your username
and password can be created. |
|
| |
• |
Can
I do a mass installation?
Yes. For undertaking a mass installation to existing
computers, choose the mass installation option in the download
process.
|
|
| |
• |
Can I use imaging for mass deployment?
If you wish to put Steath Signal onto new computers as part
of a mass deployment, you can choose the imaging option in
the download process.
|
|
| |
• |
What
information do I need to add at installation?
The program will pick up all the information on your computers,
including serial, MAC numbers etc. You may wish to add
in the department and name of the person to which the computer
is allocated.
|
|
| |
• |
Do
I need to add firewall/proxy server information?
Stealth
Signal has the ability to auto detect
and bypass most firewalls. You may wish to provide this
information, although not necessary in
most cases, so Stealth Signal can send its signal using
the shortest path when the computers are behind a firewall.
|
|
| |
• |
When
I did an installation, why could I not see any software?
Although all the hardware on your computer is immediately
found and shown on our database, picking up all the software
on your computer takes a couple of days. You also need
to check after you have logged in, that the software option
is chosen under 'Preferences' on the drop down menu on the
left.
|
|
| |
• |
I
want to specify the proxy settings myself, rather than leave
Stealth Signal to establish the settings, how do I do this?
In the install process you will be asked
to specify your proxy settings; Provide proxy or
firewall server and port information separated by a
colon ‘:’ (e.g. proxy:8080). Proxy User: Provide
ONLY if required to access the Internet. We suggest that
your network administrator creates a separate account
for audit purposes. Proxy Password: Assigned
password. Proxy Domain: ONLY required if your
firewall or proxy uses Microsoft NTLM
Authentication.
|
|
| |
Firewalls
& Modems |
|
| |
• |
What
types of modems are supported?
Any modem that is sold on the market. This includes
any modem that connects to a fixed line, GSM modems (including
PCMCIA modems) and network modems.
|
|
| |
• |
Is
it possible to send a signal from behind a corporate firewall?
Yes, Stealth Signal has the unique ability to autodetect any
proxy or firewall settings used to connect to the Internet
(over which a signal could be sent). There is no need to configure
the software when installing in order to access the Internet.
Stealth Signal collects and autodetects the necessary settings
to access the Internet even if your firewall requires a password.
|
|
| |
• |
How
about Personal Firewalls, like Zone Alarm?
We can bypass Personal Firewalls such as Zone Alarm, Norton
and McAffee without being detected.
|
|
| |
• |
Does
Stealth Signal work over networks?
Yes, so long as there is a connection via the network to the
internet or phone line so that a signal can be sent, Stealth
Signal will work.
|
|
| |
Formatting |
|
| |
• |
Can
the program be removed?
The only way to remove the program is by login in on our website
with a valid account or password and deactivating the service.
|
|
| |
• |
What about if the hard drive is re-formatted?
To prevent the format of your hard drive, during the installation
we provide instruction for making your Windows or Macintosh
computer format resistant. If the hard drive is formatted
the program will be lost.
|
|
| |
• |
Where
is the program held?
The software is disguised as application files on the computer's
hardrive (not the BIOS), which can be protected so that the
program cannot be removed. If one of the files is deleted
it will re-create itself.
|
|
| |
• |
What
happens if the hard drive is replaced?
The program will continue working from within the hard drive
and send a signal when the replaced hard drive is used in
another computer. This will allow us to identify the
location of the new computer and track back to where the old
computer is.
|
|
| |
• |
Can
stealth signal be detected?
No. Any security system no matter how complex or high tech
it is can be defeated given the time and knowledge. For this
reason we have concentrated on being undetectable. If a thief
does not know that the computer has Stealth Signal installed,
he will not spend time trying to overcome it.
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
• |
Does
this work globally?
Yes, as the signal sends the IP address as well as caller
ID, even if the computer is in the furthest reaches of the
world, we will still receive the IP address via the internet.
|
|
| |
• |
How
often is a signal sent?
A signal is sent every time that the computer is re-booted.
If the computer is left on and not re-booted it will send
a message every 24hrs. If a signal has not been sent
via the internet within 72 hours, the program will force a
direct dial via the modem. If the computer has been
stolen, the signal will use both the internet and a direct
dial to send the signal.
|
|
| |
• |
Will
barred numbers be shown?
Barred numbers will not be shown in full under the 'Review
Activity' menu, but will be held by the phone companies in
case of a theft situation. In this scenario we will
gather this information for the police from the phone companies.
|
|
| |
• |
Will
caller ID always work?
Only where an analogue line is used. Digital lines,
such as ADSL-Broadband, do not use caller mode as they are
'always on'.
|
|
| |
• |
Where
does the program dial to when the computer is stolen?
Stealth Signal has local freephone numbers set up in most
major countries.
|
|
| |

your computer's speed or performance. The program
will not interfere with other applications.
|
|
• |
How
big is the program on the disk?
